Art on the Move’ in the Spotlight Gallery
Traditional Folk Art is ‘Art on the Move’ and a familiar sight on the residential and holiday boats visiting Newark on the River Trent. Artist Deborah Hill says ‘Focusing on roses and castles, the designs were painted on the canal boats by families who lived on the boats generally receiving no education and living in extreme poverty. Often, they did not even own the boat they lived on.

High Peak Borough Council has approved a cultural strategy development plan
HPBC has approved a development plan to create a cultural strategy. This will be a year-long piece of work with community engagement and data gathering at its heart. By the end of the process, we will have a cultural strategy with a vision of how cultural life in the High Peak will look in 2030. We will also have an action plan to realise this vision.
