The Workshop

Your tutor, Jane, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “Join me on this ‘Beginners Modern Calligraphy workshop’.

All equipment is provided for you to be able to learn how to hold and use the pen and nibs. We will work with both ink and metallic paints, and different nibs so you can see and understand the difference products can make to your work. Have a practise with hand out example sheets and then use your new found skills to create a personalised wreath sample that you can take home!

I have taught all types of calligraphy & find that “Modern Calligraphy” is wonderful and “user friendly” in comparison to the classic scripts. It is perfect for both left and right handed people, so no excuses lefties!!

I only work with the products that I know work well for learning calligraphy & will bring products for you to purchase on the day, if you wish, for continuing your new skills at home!”

NB: Would you like to join in but could only make the morning or afternoon that day? Please email us and we can arrange this for you.

What is the cost?

£66.50 + £1.27 card fee This includes use of all the materials needed to create your beautiful letters and refreshments (hot drinks and handmade biscuits) during the day.

How many places are available?

To ensure the quality of your personal experience, the group size is limited to 8.

What are the timings?

This is a relaxed day running from 10am to 4pm.

Our purple front door will be open from 9.30am so we can welcome you in, you can get to meet Jane and your fellow crafters and grab a cuppa before you start.

What skills are needed?

No experience is necessary. You will need a steady hand and a consistent grip, as with handwriting.

What to bring on the day?

Anticipation to enjoy the whole experience!

Specific to this workshop:

  • You may have purchased calligraphy items in the past but they have not given you the results you were expecting. Please bring them along so Jane can give you advice.
  • Some pennies! Jane will bring nibs and inks should you ‘get the bug’ and want to purchse them on the day
  • Reading glasses if you need them.

We will be providing drinks and home-made biscuits throughout the day.
