Artists Heidi Luker and Lise Bennett have been funded by the National Lottery and Arts Council England to work collaboratively on a site-specific R & D project, Ambergate Wireworks – The Part They Played. A co-production with Derby’s Museum of Making, the project will explore visual artistic responses to how the Ambergate Wireworks (Johnson & Nephew Ltd), changed the course of communication technology, engineering, warfare & farming throughout the world through an immersive installation.
Over a series of free drop-in wire sculpting sessions in Ambergate, they will introduce people to simple methods of sculpting or ‘drawing’ with wire using a pair of pliers. They’d also love to hear from and interview any ex-workers who want to share their stories of working in the wireworks and will be happy to do so during the sessions.
For this session Heidi and Lise will be based at the White Peak Distillery, situated in the wireworks and Shining Cliff Woods. The activity will take place outside in the distillery’s Yellow Wood or in the cosy Tasting Room, depending on the weather.
Ambergate train station is within walking distance and car parking is available. There is disabled access and toilets available and they are happy to help with local transportation is mobility is an issue.
