Writing The Self – Poetry Workshop

Event details

Writing The Self – Poetry Workshop

Can poetry give you identity? Can writing a poem help you discover who you are? Can writing allow us to express ourselves? These are the questions we’ll explore in our poetry workshop with Charlotte Lunn.

From the initial idea to a first draft, we will guide you through various exercises and explore work by other poets in order to gain a toolbox of techniques for your writing.

This is an online workshop.

We’ll explore:

  • How metaphor can be used to describe the difficult parts of ourselves.

  • What messages might our dreams be giving us about identity.

  • How people’s expectations and assumptions can affect how we perceive ourselves.

  • How placing yourself as a character in a fairytale or Greek myth can offer insight into your identity.

Come prepared to write.

All of our workshops are fast-paced and jam-packed with writing tasks and ideas. Leaving you with lots of activities you can continue within your own time.

We design these sessions to be fun and casual, a chance to take some time out of your busy week and exercise your creative skills, develop your knowledge, and enjoy writing with like-minded people.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You want to learn how you can use poetry to explore self-expression.
  • You want to learn what an identity poem is, and to write one about yourself.
  • You want to discuss your ideas about poetry and identity, in a small-friendly group setting.
