Tim Rose works in oil and watercolour, with subject matter ranging from architectural studies and urban scenes to portraiture. His practice is rooted in direct observation, painting largely on site or developing finished works in the studio from preparatory sketches. Central to his approach is a desire to capture the immediacy and atmosphere of his first response to a place or person.
Rose has exhibited widely throughout the UK, with work shown at prestigious open exhibitions including the Royal Watercolour Society, the Royal Institute of Watercolourists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. Alongside his exhibiting practice, he is an experienced and respected teacher, running courses across Derbyshire and from his own studio.
He has received numerous commissions from major organisations, producing illustrated views of their premises for clients such as Barclays Bank and Marks & Clerk. His work has also been widely reproduced as cards and prints by leading publishers.
Educated at Watford School of Art, Tim Rose went on to study under Peter Schmidt, later working as his studio assistant. He completed a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Sheffield Polytechnic in 1975. His career includes numerous solo exhibitions, notably at Ingleby Gallery, Gallery 93 Derby, and the Greenhouse Gallery, Sheffield, as well as being selected as Lichfield Festival Artist and exhibiting at St Paul’s Cathedral. He has also participated extensively in national art fairs, including the Manchester Art Fair, Glasgow Art Fair, and Patchings Art Fair.
