Join The Oxford Gargoyles for The Oxford Gargoyles concert at St Oswald’s Church, Ashbourne DE6 1AR – 19th August at 7pm!
Founded in 1998, The Oxford Gargoyles is a vocal group comprising thirteen singers, typically students from Oxford’s two universities, selected through a competitive audition process at the start of each academic year. Often seen dashing between formal dinners and concerts around Oxford, the group was envisioned by its founder as best suited to perform in black tie—an elegant tradition they have maintained for all performances. These include fourteen consecutive years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a wide range of local gigs, from Blackwell’s Bookshop to the Bodleian Library.
As an a cappella group with jazz at its core, The Oxford Gargoyles offers a distinctive take on the genre compared to the popular American collegiate groups—made famous by the film Pitch Perfect. Their sound blends the harmony and subtlety of jazz with the vibrant energy and joy of a cappella music.
