Matlock’s first coworking space builds on history of creativity and professionalism with aim to become post-Covid cornerstone of the community

Matlock resident and Founder Jen Lowthrop hopes that Coworking Corner will become a “cornerstone” of the Matlock community.

Matlock’s first coworking space, Coworking Corner, is now open, creating a place where the Matlock community can work together, meet new people and have fun from a new creative space.

Coworking Corner, based on Bank Road, has previously been a hairdressers, an accountants, a fish and chip shop and even a dress shop in its 140+ year history. Now it is a coworking space to bring the Matlock creative and professional community back together post-Covid.

With deskspace starting from £15 a day, or £150 per month for unlimited use, Matlock residents and professionals from across the region are already travelling to use the coworking space.

Founder Jen Lowthrop says, “In our first two weeks we’ve had people from Derby, Nottingham, Buxton, Ripley and even three women from London who used the space to join an online conference while on holiday in the Peak District.

“Coworking Corner is so much more than just a desk for the day. We are a community. A place where you can get support for your work, a friendly ear to chat through ideas or problems and people to celebrate a work win”.

As more offices shut down and become remote there will be more and more need for local coworking spaces where people can meet new people away from home.

Coworker Sam Fillingham, CEO of PiP UK Poland Syndrome Charity said, “I had the best day at Coworking Corner. I really enjoyed meeting new people and being in a creative and collaborative space. The layout is fantastic, the desk setup is lovely and coffee and cookies amazing too”

There are many benefits to coworking, especially after almost 18 months of working from home:

• Increased productivity – In a recent survey of 1,000+ office workers, 69% told us that they are more productive when they have variety in where they can work in the office during a workday.
• Better work/life balance – some people really want to separate work and home and using a coworking space can help offer a dedicated ‘workspace’ away from the distractions of home
• Networking opportunities – Coworking brings a new sense of community. There is so much potential when you meet new people. Coworking Corner has already seen connections being made.

Coworking Corner has an office dog, @peakdistrictcookie who is on hand for snuggles on the bad days or just for a break time hug for improved work wellbeing.

Jen offers home-baked cookies, tea, coffee and other snacks for coworkers, alongside speedy wifi, large desks and comfy chairs. There is also a library of business, creativity and wellbeing books on offer. Some are available to borrow and others for your perusal when at ‘Corner’.

When Covid allows Coworking Corner will be offering networking events, workshops and a regular book club.
