Déda, the Derby-based nationally recognised centre for dance, movement and creativity, has launched a new series of in-person education and training programmes called the Déda Campus, to help Dance Artists and young people learn more about dance and upskill themselves.
An Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training course has been developed for those aged 18 and above, with a background in dance, to deepen their practice and provide alternative income sources for freelancers.
Starting with a free half-day taster workshop on Friday May 20, https://www.deda.uk.com/whats-on/yoga-teacher-training-taster-session participants can then sign up to the accredited teacher training programme run by senior Yoga teacher, dancer and choreographer Jamie Blowers.
The course is held at Déda over three weeks starting on July 10. For more information and to book a place, please visit https://www.deda.uk.com/whats-on/yoga-teacher-training-course.
Choreo-Lounge is another new initiative launched by Déda which aims to re-connect with Dance Artists and support them to create new work through a choreography and professional development course.
The intensive two-week programme in August enables dance artists to work individually and as part of a group exploring new choreography. The initiative is led by award-winning choreographer Roberta Jean and a team of other expert industry professionals. For more information and to book a place, please visit https://www.deda.uk.com/whats-on/choreo-lounge.
Finally, young people interested in studying GCSE Dance are invited to a taster workshop on July 2, between 2pm and 6pm https://www.deda.uk.com/whats-on/gcse-dance-taster-workshop.
After meeting with the Déda Dance Development and Learning team and exploring the centre, participants will join a dance workshop and theory class with the James Cousins’ Company whose dance film Within Her Eyes is part of the current GCSE Dance Anthology.
These initiatives compliment the cornerstone of the Déda Campus – MA in Dance and Choreography – which was launched in partnership with University of Derby in 2021 and is recruiting currently for the second cohort, due to commence in September 2022.
Head of Dance Development and Learning, Clare Limb explained: “Déda has long been recognised for our outstanding contribution in the field of dance development and learning which has obviously been severely impacted during the pandemic.
“In person collaborations, performance and professional development has not been possible for so long and we are keen to do what we can to support young people and artists at various stages of their careers with high quality learning and skills experiences led by nationally renowned leaders in their field.”
