Kris Stokes

I’m Kris Stokes, a UK-based pencil artist who creates expressive graphite drawings of animals — each one shaped by a mix of observation, emotion, and imagination.

My work focuses on the small, human moments we all share: self-doubt, calm, curiosity, frustration, joy. Instead of people, I use animals to tell those stories — their honesty and presence allow me to explore feelings with subtlety and humour.

Working in graphite allows me to slow down and focus on the details that bring a character to life — the tilt of a head, a subtle shift in posture, a spark in the eyes. Every piece is drawn by hand, built up through layers of tone, texture, and quiet patience.

I’ve always been a listener and observer, drawn to art that feels honest rather than loud. My animals give voice to that gentler perspective — a way of saying “you’re not alone” through expression and simplicity.
