The Workshop

Come and find out how to make your own lino prints in just a morning … then, if you get hooked, come for a whole day!! Your tutor, Helen, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “Using pre-cut traditional lino and water-based inks, come and have a go at printing a range of colour prints in a variety of ways! You’ll also have the opportunity to cut your own small design into lino to print onto cards.

I will be demonstrating simple ways to add colour to your designs, which you’ll be able to try with traditional lino, inks, professional cutters and a press. You will create a collection of beautiful colourful prints and cards to take away and frame or to impress your friends and family with your new skills! (If you’ve got some gel prints that you’ve made at a previous workshop,  you could print onto those as they make great backgrounds for lino-prints.)

If you have time, before the day of this workshop, please prepare a simple 5-inch square design to bring with you, then you’ll be able to use that to cut into your lino. If you don’t, no worries, as I will have some designs that you can use as well as pre-cut lino designs that are ready to print if you don’t fancy cutting your own.
All materials and tools will be provided but if you have your own cutters, please bring them along.”

What to bring?

Anticipation to enjoy the whole experience!

Specific to this workshop:

  • a simple 5-inch square design (so you can use this as a template to cut your own lino – if you have time)
  • wear casual clothes. We will be providing aprons, but as you will be using inks there’s a possibility of mess!
  • Reading glasses if you need them.

What skills are needed?

No experience is necessary. This workshop is for complete beginners. To hold the lino cutter is fairly easy, you then just need a fair degree of finger strength to apply pressure through the tool to remove small sections of your lino material. You also need to hold onto the lino with your other hand to keep it steady. This is a perfect workshop if you just want to watch how it is done and have a try for yourself.

What are the timings?

This is a relaxed, morning running from 10am to 12.30pm.

Our purple front door will be open from 9.30am so we can welcome you in, you can get to meet Helen and your fellow crafters and grab a cuppa before you start.

How many places are available?

To ensure the quality of your personal experience, the group size is limited to 8.

What is the cost?

£38.50 + 84p card fee. This includes all the materials needed to make your lino design and prints to take away with you and drinks and home-made biscuits during the morning (excluding lunch)
