Hands on Holidays // Be an Art Detective

Event details

Families are invited to join us on Tuesday 18th October for our interactive ‘Be an Art Detective’ workshop.

The Portland Tiara was commissioned from Cartier in 1902 for Winifred, Duchess of Portland to wear at the coronation of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. It was made with diamonds supplied by the 6th Duke of Portland, and can be seen in de Laszlo’s portraits of the Duchess.

It was stolen from The Portland Collection museum in November 2018.

This is our final Be an Art Detective workshop, as our exhibition changes in Spring 2023 and the empty armoured glass case where the Portland Tiara was displayed before its theft will no longer be on show.

Families will visit this display and then use the story of the Portland Tiara as a jumping off point for storytelling and paper crown making activities.
