Join textile artist Anne Kelly and make a superhero cape.
Families are invited to join us in the Creative Space for a special workshop with our visiting artist. Anne will help you to create your own superhero cape from fabric and paper collage. Expect gluing and drawing, stitching, and snipping.
What will your arty superpower be?
This activity is inspired by our new exhibition, ‘Well Travelled’, by textile artist Anne Kelly.
Anne has written four books on textile art and teaches workshops on textile and mixed-media art all over the world.
She is known for her intricately embroidered artworks which are inspired by travel, memory, nature, and especially folk art.
Capes often feature in stories and folklore – such as the one worn by Little Red Riding Hood, the capes that flutter behind flying superheroes, or ones that offer invisibility. In this workshop, we are inviting you to be inspired either by your favourite hero or by a fairy tale as a way of connecting with these stories and traditions. You are welcome to bring along any photos or images that represent any of these ideas to help you with your design.
All materials will be provided, but if you have a sewing kit, please feel free to bring it along.
