Dressmaking Techniques: Seams and Shaping @ Our Crafty Place

The Workshop

Your tutor, Melinda, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “Are you:

  • a self-taught dressmaker?
  • just starting out on your dressmaking journey?
  • a dressmaker with some experience looking to learn some techniques to improve the finish of your garments?

This half day workshop could be just what you are looking for!

During the workshop you will learn:

  • different ways to finish off your seams and when to use each
  • how to sew darts professionally
  • how to gather fabric

This half day workshop is suitable for beginners to dressmaking plus those with some sewing skills which you are looking to build upon. Be prepared to pick up lots of tips and snippets of dressmaking information too throughout the workshop! You will leave this workshop with a series of sample pieces you have made demonstrating each technique covered, for you to keep to refer to in your sewing journey. All the materials you will need on the day are included.

You can either bring your machine or use one of our machines (first come first served).”

What to bring?

Anticipation to enjoy the whole experience!

Specific to this workshop:

  • Your sewing machine please, if you have one. (Please indicate that you are bringing it on your booking form)
  • Reading glasses if you need them.

What skills are needed?

As already said by Melinda, this workshop is for beginners who have just found an interest in learning to make clothes or those who already have some experience. You will need to know how to use all the basic controls on a sewing machine.

What are the timings?

This is a relaxed, morning running from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Our purple front door will be open from 9.00am so we can welcome you in, you can get to meet Melinda and your fellow crafters and grab a cuppa before you start.

How many places are available?

To ensure the quality of your personal experience, the group size is limited to 12.

What is the cost?

£30 + 71p card fee. This includes all the materials needed for this workshop, drinks and home-made biscuits during the morning (excluding lunch).
