What's on
The Workshop
Your tutor, Trisha, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “Come and spend a relaxed afternoon creating your own flower ornament out of glass. In this 2 ½ hour session I will show you how. Starting with a flat rectangle of clear glass, on it you will design your flower arrangement using colourful cabochons, frit and curved / straight stringers (rods) of glass. A cabochon is a pre-fired bead of glass, frit is the term for lots of small pieces of glass and the rods are used for the stems and leaves.
Spend some time choosing your colour theme and laying out your design. At this stage it is very satisfying to experiment and have fun. When you are pleased with your effect, using a very small amount of glue, you will stick down the pieces of glass in position. This means your design will stay in place while I transport it to my kiln.
Your ornament then gets fired twice. Once to fuse the glass pieces together and the second time to slump the glass over a curve, so you end up with a beautiful piece of glass that stands up on its own.” Pop a tealight behind it, or stand it on a window cill and watch it sparkle.
