What's on

Crochet Flowers Workshop @ Our Crafty Place

Event details

The Workshop

Are you wanting to:
• learn the basics of crochet?
• enhance your existing crochet skills?
• re-fresh on some forgotten skills?
• spend a relaxing time crocheting with like-minded people?
Then look no further – this workshop could be what you are looking for!

Your tutor, Melinda, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “Everyone is welcome on this workshop regardless of whether you have never crocheted before or are a seasoned crocheter. I will have a range of different flowers for everyone to work on so that we can get everyone working on something geared to their own existing skill levels.

A selection of acrylic yarn will be available to use during the workshop plus crochet hooks to borrow in the session. If you already crochet however and have a certain type of hook you prefer to use you are welcome to bring those to use. We will be using Double Knitting Weight yarn so 4mm or 4.5mm are most appropriate.

Common myths around crocheting:
• ‘I am left-handed so I can’t crochet.’
Not a problem. I am left-handed and can demonstrate the techniques with either hand.

• ‘I can’t follow a pattern
Don’t worry I will have a selection of small projects which I will talk you through explaining the stitches and terminology and the charts which some people prefer to follow.

• ‘I have tried learning on YouTube but find the terminology confusing
The most confusing thing about learning crochet from YouTube is that most of the instructions there use US terminology which is different to UK crochet terminology. I will touch on these differences as I take you through the patterns on the day which will all be in UK terminology.”

What to bring?

Anticipation to enjoy the whole experience!

Specific to this workshop:

  • Your own crochet hook if you prefer using it.
  • Reading glasses if you need them.

What skills are needed?

No experience is necessary. Crochet involves both hands but is rythmical and mindful once you get a feel of what to do with the hook and feeding the wool through your other hand. Please let us know if you need a larger hook and thicker wool if you have difficulties holding onto thin handled tools.

What are the timings?

This is a relaxed, morning running from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Our purple front door will be open from 9.00am so we can welcome you in, you can get to meet Melinda and your fellow crocheters and grab a cuppa before you start.

How many places are available?

To ensure the quality of your personal experience, the group size is limited to 8.

What is the cost?

£28 +68p card fee. This includes all the materials needed to make your flowers and drinks and home-made biscuits during the morning (excluding lunch).
