Private Classes by Arrangement
Come learn the fundamentals of batik on this one day course at Attic Batik in Ripley, Derbyshire. This class is aimed at absolute beginners, as full tuition and the opportunity to practice will be given. It is also suitable for those with some experience. Class sizes are small with a maximum of 3 students, so you will be given plenty of time & attention.
Having picked a letter of your choice I will demonstrate a step-by-step process of how to draw with hot liquid wax and how to add colourful dyes to your stretched cotton piece. We will look at different tools and the use of pattern to achieve a variety of effects. Methods for building up layers of colour using the wax as a resist barrier will be explored.
After your design is finished we will complete the process by removing the wax with a hot iron. Your bespoke artwork will then be fixed into a good quality frame, ready for you to take home. There are different frame options with mounts available to compliment your showpiece and home decor.
Our peaceful studio is equipped with all the necessary tools and materials for you to create your own unique piece. Cotton panels, waxing tools such as tjantings, stamps, dyes and brushes, and much more are all provided.
The class runs from 10am – 4:30pm approx. including breaks.
The cost of the class is £245 for one-to-one tuition for 6 hours (approx.) and includes all materials and a large picture frame.
The cost is reduced per person if you bring friends or family with you:
x2 people = £127 each
x3 people maximum = £88 each
You may wish to bring an apron and I recommend that you wear old clothes, as the dyes are permanent and do stain. Protective gloves are provided if needed.
Tea, coffee, juice & light refreshments are included in the price but please bring a packed lunch.
This class is suitable for anyone above the age of 16.
A regards mobility: Please be aware that my studio is in an upstairs room and the bathroom & kitchen are downstairs. The steps are fairly steep but there is a banister. There is on-street parking but some days may require a short walk.
I look forward to meeting you!
