Beethoven | Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus
Beethoven | Romance for Violin and Orchestra No.1
Beethoven | Symphony No. 1
Conductor | Karen Ní Bhroin
Violin | Sophie Rosa
A quick fix of Beethoven for those of you who like your concerts short and sharp, this one hour programme features performances of three landmark Beethoven works alongside unique insight into the music from conductor Karen Ní Bhroin and our musicians.
Sinfonia Viva plays three works a young Beethoven wrote around his 30th birthday, before he became famous and at the same time he started to experience hearing loss. His First Symphony demonstrates much about what became unique about his music – including structural and tonal innovations that distinguished his work from composers who came before. We also have his bold Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus – his only full length ballet – and a rare chance to hear the luscious Romance for Violin and Orchestra No.1.
If you’ve ever wanted to get a deeper understanding of Beethoven’s music, or even a bit of help enjoying it in the first place, this concert is for you. And with an 8pm finish, there’s plenty of time to go out for dinner afterwards or just enjoy an early night.
For schools: Beethoven’s Symphony No.1 is a set work on the AQA GSCE Music Syllabus. Come and hear it alongside insight from the musician for just £5 per student. Contact Katie Lucas (Head of Creative Programmes) at katie@sinfoniaviva.co.uk if you would like to discuss a school trip.
