Ruth Angell ~ Hlywing

Event details

Brought to you by Crich Live, hosted by Crich Glebe Community Centre; we bring you an evening of beautiful songs from Derbyshire talent, Ruth Angell’s acclaimed debut album Hlywing.

Meaning ‘Shelter’ and pronounced ‘Huh – lee – weenguh’, ‘Hlywing’ is Ruth’s first album as a solo artist, and has received rave reviews.

“A voice of immaculate beauty” The Daily Mirror
***** “Contemporary songwriting at it’s best” RnR Magazine
***** “A glorious voice, poetic, powerful, truly wonderful” Folk London Magazine
**** “A highly original songwriter exquisite, emotional, impressive” Songlines Magazine

The show includes self-penned songs, tunes and a few choice covers to complement the set and will be complimented by showing images from the album, some film and shots.
The multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter’s career has included working with many artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Andrea Begley, Birdy, Ashley Hutchings, Terry Reid, Sid Peacock, Becky Mills, Jim Moray, Jo Hamilton and many more.

Growing up in Derbyshire surrounded by green fields and grey stone walls, Ruth’s beautifully crafted lyrics are sensitive – drawing on her own experiences, circumstances, and situations, her hopes and her fears. Each story is embellished by inspirations from the wonders of nature around her home and encountered on her travels. There will be new material, old favourites and some surprises along the way.
