Join us for the Derby Lantern Parade! Lanterns of all shapes and sizes will illuminate a path through Derby city centre, spreading joy as we celebrate coming together as ‘One’. The Lantern Parade is a part of Derby’s Season of Light, for information please visit our website ​

More than 500 children and young people from Derby’s schools (Parkview Primary, Da Vinci Academy, Allenton Community Primary, Firs Estate, Grampian Primary, Alvaston Junior, Beckett primary, Dale Primary, Asterdale Primary, Brookfield Primary Schools), Derby University and various community group members who have created lanterns in our workshops will the Derby Lantern Parade leading to Derby’s Christmas lights switch-on this Saturday November 12.

Here’s what’s planned…


Parade Route

The parade will start from The Spot Sclupture, 105 St Peters St, Derby DE1 2AD at 4.10pm and weave its way through the city centre, along St Peter’s Street, through to Cornmarket and the Christmas Lights stage at Market Square, Derby Market Place, DE1 3AH, approx at 4.50pm, ready for the finale.


Derby Lantern Parade illuminates and begins with dance & SambaDhol drumming performance at the the Spot, 105 St Peters St, Derby DE1 2AD.

4.10pm (approx)

Parade starts led by the SambaDhol drummers and Chinese Dragon Dancers. ​

4.25pm (approx)

Brilliant Bhangra dancers will dazzle with an exciting performance outside Tesco (Cornmarket)

4.40pm (approx)

Graceful Chinese Umbrella Dancers will enchant you outside Primark Store.

​4.50pm (approx)

Parade arrives at the Market Square of the Christmas Light’s Stage (Market Place, Derby DE1 3AH). A cheerful welcome and chance to capture the special moment!

​5.00pm (approx)

Spectacular finale performance will entertain you by Christmas Lights show.

Anyone who has taken part in Surtal Arts’ lantern making workshop is welcome to join the parade. If you have any queries please contact us.

Please note, no glass lanterns or real flames will be allowed in the parade.

Lantern Parade Finale

The spectacle will continue with a stage performance organised by Derby Live.
