Spital Arts are delighted to host this excellent Maritime Music evening with the highly accomplished musicians Lester Simpson & NIgel Corbett. Lester performed for many years with the marvellous a cappella trio Coope, Boyes and Simpson including the very moving Passchendaele Suite of songs about the FIrst World War and Passchendaele in particular..
Chesterfield based NIgel Corbett has perormed with Prego and more recently performed at Spital Arts with Some Antics and Rare Occasion. This is another evening definitely not to be missed as we will be in for a musical treat.
Quay Of Sea reflects Lester’s love of the sea and sailing anything from a Mirror Dinghy to a Full Rigged Ship, latterly it has been mostly Tall Ships with a few trips on some lovely old Gaff Riggers.
The concert draws on Lester’s own songs as well favourites from other writers and that great reservoir of nautical song that is the tradition, Lester on accordion, ukulele and vocals is ably assisted by Nigel Corbett on guitar, ukulele and fiddle, the material represents a broad spectrum from the tragic to the comic delivered in songs, stories and tunes.
The concert lwill give the audience a chance to join in with some well known songs as well as enjoying a good laugh and maybe the odd tear as well.
So “stand by your bow stoppers, let go your shank painters, haul up your clew garnets, let tacks and sheets fly”
