Matlock Storytelling Cafe presents: Tales from the Motherland by Peter Chand.

We are delighted to be welcoming Peter Chand back for a live, genuine, in the flesh Matlock Storytelling Cafe. Tales from the Motherland by Peter Chand. Storyteller Peter Chand presents a heady collection of some of his favourite traditional stories, some of which he has collected from India, translated, and shares now with us in his own unique and skilful style. Expect a mouth-watering blend of evocative, dark, and thoughtful tales from the Indian sub-continent, as relevant today as they have ever been.
Born and bred in Wolverhampton, Peter has told his stories from Southall to Singapore, Todmorden to Toronto, Amsterdam to Athens- and many a place in between. He also holds the great honour of being one of the 100 Masters for his work with storytelling and the community (awarded by Creative Black Country).
“Peter Chand is a brilliant storyteller who knows how to give old traditional stories a new suit in which they can live on for years to come.” Kitty Peetoom Co-programmer Zwolle Unlimited Festival Netherlands. Our wonderful house band, ‘Cage of Crows’ will be ‘in the house’ too.
After such a long break we are reentering the live world gently, dipping our toes back in the water and have made a few changes to our ‘usual’ operations. As such our kitchen will not be open. You are very welcome to bring your own drinks and refreshments (non noisy snacks etc) (leave the crisps at home). We will have a short interval during the night and finish at 9.30. There will be limited tickets available.
We urge you to book in advance as we cannot guarantee there will be tickets available on the night. We would also like to encourage our audience members to perform a lateral flow test before attending.
We at Matlock Storytelling Cafe are really looking forward to that shared magic time when the world changes as we hear the words ‘Once upon a time’; so grab a ticket, turn off your phone and join us on a journey.
The doors opens at 7.00pm, stories and music 7.30-9.30
Tickets are £7
