Further Afield

Thoughtful Discussions Exploring Art and Disability in rural areas.

We’re absolutely thrilled that Chesterfield Artist Bella Milroy has secured additional funding to deliver a new programme of Further Afield.

The series will continue to be presented as online conversations between Bella and a guest. Together they will explore disabled artistic practices within rural settings and how creative networks can work together to make the arts more accessible to everyone.

Bella’s first conversation will be with Letty McHugh, an artist and writer from Haworth, Yorkshire. Letty’s work explores the universality of personal experience, which is just a way of saying she’s interested in people, their stories and the things that connect us all! She’s interested in making work that brings connection and solace to people experiencing isolation, drawing inspiration from her own experiences of living with a chronic illness.

This is the first event in a series of six. All events will be BSL interpreted and captioned and recordings will be available on the LEVEL website and YouTube, with audio versions on Soundcloud and Spotify.

As well as the conversations, the project will also be creating a catalogue of rurally based disabled creatives and additional resources to support the working practices for disabled artists. See our website for more info.
