In just two weeks, Writing East Midlands will be running Scribble Feste!, their creative writing retreat for 9- to 15-year-olds. Facilitated by lead writers Quinton Green, Careese Hutchison and Ben Macpherson, Scribble Feste! is a whole day of creative writing workshops, games, activities and performances. This year, they will be exploring the theme of Justice: What is it? What do you think it should be? And what are your hopes for it in the future?
Scribble Feste! is a fantastic opportunity for young writers to make new friends, get creative, unleash their imaginations and have their voices heard. This fun-filled day takes place on 5th July from 10 am – 4 pm at the National Justice Museum. Tickets are £30 with bursary places available at £20.
Not long after that, they’re also going to be hosting The South Asian Arts Show, a celebration of writing with South Asian Heritage Roots as part of South Asian Heritage Month. Organised by Priya Gill, the SAAS has a stellar lineup of performers, including Punjabi Bhangra and hip-hop record producer Tru Skool, poet Jay Sandhu and comedian Ishi Khan.
The event is split in two parts: from 3 – 5 pm, Jay Sandhu will be running a FREE creative writing workshop all about performing your work; and then at 7 pm, they’ll be hosting an open mic with performances from their lineup of creatives plus space for attendees to perform their writing as well. The South Asian Arts Show takes place on 19th July at Normanton Library in Derby. The creative writing workshop is free, and tickets to the open mic are only £3 per person (free to anyone with a Normanton Library card).
