The Dark Peak Photography festival will run from 22nd to 25th February 2024, across several venues in Glossop. The festival will feature photography projects such as: ‘Fallen’ – exploring the WWII aircraft crash sites that lie on the moors of the Dark Peak; ‘The Closure Year’–documenting the last weeks of Glossopdale School, ‘A walk down Glossop High Street circa 1900’– featuring photographs from the Glossop Heritage Trust, and ‘Derbyshire Hill farming’–a glimpse into the life of Derbyshire’s hill farming communities. Alongside the exhibitions, visitors will be able immerse themselves in a wide range of participatory workshops and talks that celebrate the Dark Peak area – past and present.
Our Open Call Competition gives everyone a chance to have a photograph featured in the festival. We are inviting photographers of all levels, professional, amature to submit images on the theme of ‘Now and Then’. We are seeking images that reflect on the changes that time brings. How have you, or your families, grown and developed? How has the past affected you? How has the local area changed over time? The selected images will be displayed on the windows of participating premises in Glossop town centre and in our online gallery. Photographs can be taken with any camera or camera phone. It is open to all age groups and other parts of Derbyshire and other areas are welcome to submit.
Submission is free. Photographers who get an image selected will be asked to pay the printing fee of £17.50 Closing date for the open call is 20th of January 2024. The open exhibition will be on display across the town just before the festival opens. The prizes will be announced in the New Year.
