Arts Derbyshire Seeks Trustees to Join the Board

Apply to join our Board of Trustees.

We are seeking several ambitious and outgoing people who want to help lead, support and grow Arts Derbyshire to fill vacancies on our Board of Trustees.

Could you help support Arts Derbyshire in delivering its charitable objectives, or share these opportunities with friends and colleagues? Applications are welcome from all backgrounds and types of experience, and experience in the arts is not essential.

What it involves

We are looking for a number of Trustees to volunteer their time and play a vital role in making sure that Arts Derbyshire achieves its aims. The Trustees oversee the overall governance and administration of Arts Derbyshire. They ensure that Arts Derbyshire has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge our small team to enable Arts Derbyshire to grow and thrive and, through this, help us to support all artists, organisations and venues in Derbyshire.

This is a voluntary position requiring you to attend a two-hour Board meeting via Zoom six times a year. This includes the Annual General Meeting held each year in November, and one day at a venue in Derbyshire (an Away Day) for training and strategic decision making. All reasonable expenses are reimbursed for travel.

Working Sub-Groups

Take part in a working sub-group. Four sub-groups  (Finance, HR inc. Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), Communications and Fundraising ) meet over Zoom for 1-2 hours, 5-6 times a year. We are particularly keen to welcome people with experience in the following areas: Finance, Creative, Health, and Equality Diversity & Inclusion.

The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees carries out seven main functions collectively to support and steer the organisation. Trustees are expected to:

  • Ensure Arts Derbyshire is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
  • Comply with Arts Derbyshire’s governing document and the law
  • Act in Arts Derbyshire’s best interests
  • Manage Arts Derbyshire’s resources responsibly
  • Act with reasonable care and skill
  • Ensure Arts Derbyshire is accountable to its members, the public and the Charity Commission
  • Undertake short-term roles as and when necessary for the running of the charity. These are taken on in a voluntary capacity and within a flexible time

The Board of Trustees works as a team, making decisions together. Along with the team of Trustees, you will be responsible for deciding and planning how the organisation carries out its purposes. As a Trustee, you will decide with the rest of the team what activities Arts Derbyshire will undertake and think about the resources the charity will need.

Collectively, you will take responsibility for setting the charity’s strategic aims and direction, and agreeing appropriate future plans, operational structures and governance.

Apply

Please send us an Expression of Interest explaining why this voluntary role interests you, what you feel you could offer Arts Derbyshire, and a copy of your CV.

Experience in the arts is not essential. We particularly want to encourage applications from young people (18 years and over), those identifying with any of the protected characteristics as defined in the 2010 Equality Act, or who are from less affluent socioeconomic backgrounds.
