FORMAT is delighted to present three job opportunities, to be based at QUAD in Derby, and a chance to be a part of the UK’s biggest and boldest UK-based photography festival – FORMAT23
Join the team as: a FORMAT Producer
FORMAT International Photography Festival and QUAD are seeking an experienced producer to join the team to play a key role in the development and delivery of the main FORMAT biennale festival that will take place in Derby and satellite regions from 16 March to 9 April 2023.
The Producer will work closely with the core team in the lead-up to and during the festival, with additional reporting and evaluation work post the festival being completed up to the end of May 2023.
The successful applicant will support the team in the effective operations of the festival and delivery of all related programme outputs. They will help drive the programme forward with a specific focus on the production of new exhibitions and commissions for the festival.
Closing date for applications: Sunday 7 August 2022, 23:59 (BST)
Freelance Fee: £10,000 (based on an estimated 60 – 70 days during the period from September 2022 to May 2023); monthly payments.
Join the team as FORMAT Photobook Market Curator
FORMAT International Photography Festival and QUAD are seeking a Photobook Market Curator to join the team to play a key role in the delivery of the FORMAT Photobook Market during the main FORMAT biennale festival that will take place in Derby and satellite regions from 16 March to 9 April 2023.
The Photobook Market Curator will work closely with the FORMAT Coordinator and other core teams in the lead-up to and during the Photobook Market event, with additional reporting and evaluation work post the festival being completed up to the end of April 2023.
The successful applicant will support the design, delivery and management of an exciting PhotobookMarket event which pushes the boundaries of the traditional photobook market.
The event will take place during the FORMAT23 opening weekend, 16 – 19 March 2023.

Freelance Fee: £3,000 (based on 30 days during the period from September 2022 to April 2023)
Join the team as FORMAT Volunteer Coordinator
FORMAT International Photography Festival and QUAD are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to join the team to play a key role in the delivery of the main FORMAT biennale festival that will take place in Derby and satellite regions from 16 March to 9 April 2023.
The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the core team in the lead-up to and during the festival, with additional reporting and evaluation work post the festival being completed up to the end of May 2023.
The successful applicant will oversee the recruitment and management of the FORMAT Volunteer team to support the delivery of the festival’s programme of exhibitions, professional development and events.
Closing date for applications: Sunday 14 August 2022, 23:59 (BST)
Freelance Fee: £6,500 (based on 65 days during the period from September 2022 to May 2023); monthly payments.
Artist Opportunity
FORMAT, GRAIN Projects (Birmingham) and QUAD (Derby) are delighted to announce a new iteration of their successful East Meets West Masterclass Programme, which will take place in a hybrid format, both in person and online.
The masterclass programme is for UK-based emerging photographers and offers professional development, inspiration, guidance and support in a collaborative learning environment to allow participants to develop their practice, networks and new unique opportunities.
The programme will offer a platform for photographers to receive guidance and participate in focused discussions that will contribute to their creative practice and career development.
The masterclasses will be led by industry and artform leaders who will share their knowledge and practical advice on developing a successful career.
