Apply to join our Board of Trustees. We are looking for an ambitious and outgoing person whose primary role will be to act as Treasurer to help lead, support and grow Arts Derbyshire, and fill a vacancy on our Board of Trustees.
Could you help support Arts Derbyshire in delivering its charitable objectives, or share these opportunities with friends and colleagues?
We welcome applications from all kinds of background and experience, and experience in the arts is not essential.
We are looking for a trustee to volunteer their time and play a vital role in making sure that Arts Derbyshire achieves its aims. The trustees oversee the overall governance and administration of Arts Derbyshire. They ensure that Arts Derbyshire has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge our small team to enable Arts Derbyshire to grow and thrive, and through this help us support all artists, organisations and venues in Derbyshire.
As Treasurer the main responsibilities are: ensuring prompt payment of invoices; working with the administrator to ensure the accounting spreadsheet and Quickbooks are updated with all income and expenditure; overseeing end of year accounts preparation, providing all relevant information for accountant and producing a written narrative for the report; to chair bi-monthly finance sub-group meetings; to report the charity’s financial position to the board, highlighting any significant changes or risks.
The time commitment usually falls within 6-10 hours per month, but in the few months following the end of the financial year, when the preparation of accounts takes place, there will be approx. 15-20 hours a month.
This is a voluntary position requiring you to attend a three-hour Board meeting via Zoom six times a year, with one day at a venue in Derbyshire for training and strategic decision making. The Finance working group meets for 2 hours, 3-4 times a year over Zoom. All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed for travel.
The Board of Trustees works as a team to collectively support and steer the organisation. Trustees are expected to:
● Ensure Arts Derbyshire is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
● Comply with Arts Derbyshire’s governing document and the law
● Act in Arts Derbyshire’s best interests
● Manage Arts Derbyshire’s resources responsibly
● Act with reasonable care and skill
● Ensure Arts Derbyshire is accountable to its members, the public and the Charity Commission
● Undertake short-term roles as and when necessary for the running of the charity. These are taken on in a voluntary capacity and within a flexible time frame.
The Board of Trustees makes joint decisions. You and your trustees will be responsible for deciding and planning how the organisation carries out its purposes. As a trustee you will decide together what activities Arts Derbyshire will undertake and think about the resources it will need.
Collectively, you will take responsibility for setting the charity’s strategic aims and direction, and agreeing appropriate future plans, operational structures and governance.
