Exciting Updates for Dark Peak Photo Festival

Dark Peak Photo Festival have had over 3500 visitors across Victoria Hall and The Old Brewery Space this year, received over 250 applicants for the open call, and displayed photography by 200 photographers across both venues in Glossop. Retail and hospitality businesses also reported a marked increase in footfall on the high street. Additionally, 189 people took part in walks and workshops.

They’ve learned valuable lessons about what worked and what didn’t, including improvements to the open call. This year’s success was achieved without funding, and is credited to the tenacity of the whole team and the kind volunteers who supported us before, during, and after the festival. Festival organisers are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed. A massive thank you also goes to their sponsors—without their support, none of this would have been possible.

They’re excited to share that they became a Community Interest Company (CIC) this summer and also have new board member – Dave Bennet. Dave is a highly respected photographer and academic who has lectured across the North West, and Dark Peak Photo are thrilled to have his knowledge and support as they move forward.

With CIC status, they’re now focused on supporting photographers and those interested in photography by working with groups through events, workshops, and the festivals.

What are the plans for 2025?
Darl Peak are currently organising Dark Peak Photo Lite 2025, which will feature the Open Call exhibition, opening today (1st December) on CuratorSpace. In addition to the exhibition, they’ll host photography walks, workshops, and other events.

The Open Call exhibition will be installed on 15th February 2025 and run until 24th February, with the main festival weekend on 22nd and 23rd February 2025. Please add these dates to your diaries!

During the DP festival lite, photographers who want to exhibit can contact them to be added to the festival map and website.

Looking ahead, they plan to host a full festival bi-annually, allowing time for fundraising and grant applications during the in-between years. They already have exciting plans for 2026!
