A feast for the eyes at Buxton Fringe

The Visual Arts category at Buxton Fringe has a growing reputation for excellence and innovation.

Large shows include the art extravaganza that is Art in the Octagon featuring over 30 stands and fascinating demonstrations in a variety of media, and Art at the Crescent, a diverse exhibition in a beautiful setting from Peak District Artisans. Peak District Artisans are also back with their biggest annual event, the Great Dome Art and Design Fair – another example of a truly varied display in a spectacular location.

Fringe-goers can relax with a coffee at the Pavilion Gardens’ Art Cafe where stitch artist Tracey Coverley has a fascinating display of her recent textile portraits. Over at the Green Man Gallery, Adventures in Art finds the resident artists going out of their comfort zones to present some truly original new work. There are more surprises over at The Bungalow on Lightwood Avenue where there will be an exhibition inspired by illustrations from the Grolier Edition of The Book of Knowledge encyclopedia.

There is an interactive aspect to the ever-entertaining Buxton Flowerpot Trail with families invited to find the decorated flowerpot people all around the town. High Peak Photography Club is meanwhile mounting its Buxton Photo Challenge offering a chance to people to take six photos on six themes in six hours.

Says Marketing officer Stephanie Billen: “As an amateur artist myself, I love this part of the Fringe and can’t wait to be stimulated by everything on display.”

Further information on Fringe events is available at, in the printed programme or on the free to download Buxton Fringe App.

The Fringe wishes to thank High Peak Borough Council, its Fringe Friends and the town’s many Fringe supporters and venues.
