Haarlem Artspace gallery opening in November 2021

Haarlem Artspace have some exciting news! Despite having been quiet for a while, negotiating the pandemic, and wondering about the future, Haarlem has been working with the Red Lion Hotel and The Feather Star Alehouse.

Supported by a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England, Haarlem are opening a town gallery in the amazing “St Ives of the North” that is Wirksworth.

There will be a sneaky peek into the beautiful space inside the Red Lion Hotel, previously the town’s old Assembly Room, for Haarlem’s inaugural Christmas Market featuring work from Studio Holders on the evening of the 5th and weekend of the 6th and 7th November.

Haarlem Artspace’s first exhibition ‘Gathering’ will open with an evening public view on Friday 26th of November 6-8 pm. Curated by Cornish artists Verity Birt and Jonathan Michael Ray, the show focuses on communal acts of intimacy between people, sites and materials, connecting communities with rural landscape.

Haarlem Artspace champions rural contemporary art regionally, nationally, and internationally through online exhibitions, residencies, publications, talks and events, as well as providing dedicated studios for creative practitioners in the historic Haarlem Mill. It is not a publicly or privately funded space and is primarily volunteer-run. Therefore, Haarlem Artspace are raising funds through a Go Fund Me campaign to buy equipment and refurbish.

Any help to support this venture is much appreciated (as they know times are tough, especially in the creative sector, so are only asking those that can).

In the meantime, you can catch up with Haarlem’s studio holders on their website’s community page, or over on Instagram.
