Amanda Haran is seeking a suitable local venue in Amber Valley to host a participatory flax installation that invites communities to share their memories, stories, and connections to the textile heritage.
Amanda is a contemporary community textile artist in Derbyshire exploring how heritage, place and wellbeing can be woven together through fibre. Her projects celebrate local stories and collective making, connecting people through shared materials and sustainable textile practices. From flax and rope making to mindful stitching and creative activism, each project grows from collaboration and curiosity.
Her new project reawakens Derbyshire’s flax history, collects local voices before they are lost, and encourages others to grow flax in the coming season.
Suggestions of community, heritage, or public spaces that could accommodate the installation and story-capture activities, ideally within reach of Alfreton, Ripley, or Belper, are needed!
Amanda aims to collaborate with local partners to celebrate Amber Valley’s rich creative and industrial heritage while growing new connections through art.
