Two weeks today (Friday 21st May) the UK’s newest, world-class visitor attraction – The Museum of Making – is opening its doors for the first time.
The new museum is in the heart of Derby, and is situated where Derby Silk Mill, widely regarded as the site of the world ’ s first modern factory, first stood over 300 years ago. It also sits within the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Covid-19 lockdowns have sparked a renewed interest in, and love for, making. With programmes like The Repair Shop growing in popularity, the Museum of Making will harness the nation’s newfound passion for creativity and making, encouraging visitors to get creative and inspiring the next generation of innovators. The museum opens in the same week that cultural sites and visitor attractions in England are able to welcome visitors again, post-lockdown.
