Students at Derby College have been helping brighten up Christmas for a group of children in Derby who are being supported by the Derby Children’s Social Care team.
The Early Years and Education students and curriculum team at the College developed a social action project titled ‘Operation Gift Box’. Using their own money, the students planned and created Christmas themed gift boxes to donate to children under Derby Children’s Social Care. They bought age specific presents, and up-cycled shoe boxes, designed and decorated to create the gift boxes.
Amber Hamid, curriculum manager, commented “The students were so enthusiastic about the project and helping bring some cheer to children that may not receive many presents this Christmas. It reflected the very caring nature of those involved in the Early Years curriculum. It was fantastic to see how involved and driven our students were to help and support, and to see their genuine kindness and generosity.”
Tor Deacon, Placement officer delivered the boxes to a Derby Children’s Social Care site and commented “ The social care team was so impressed with the boxes and really appreciated the effort made by our students.”
