Matinée Outreach Project Article Post:
Arts Derbyshire INTRODUCES Chris Bohan, a talented writer and participant of Matinée Outreach.
Matinée Outreach is a creative project for people living with dementia, who have explored creative writing, crafts and visual art via phone calls, posts and video calls. Arts Derbyshire has worked with artists Nicky Bellenger, Lindsey Warnes Carroll and Lisa Waugh, who have worked with participants remotely since October 2020; helping to tackle social isolation and supporting people to explore their creativity.
Chris Bohan, who has been an active member of the Matinee project, lives with dementia with Lewy Bodies. Artist Nicky Bellenger has worked with Chris to create a series of videos in which he reads his poetic writing to audiences across the internet on Arts Derbyshire’s YouTube channel.
In one of his poems ‘Road to Pennal’, Chris summarises, “This piece practically wrote itself. It was inspired by walking down the Dovey Valley. Views from riverbed to a conifer forest skyline.”
His short story ‘The Spider’ is a comical tale of the fear of encountering a spider on the stairs: one we can all no doubt relate to! He is able to find beauty and humour in every day and it is heartwarming to see him perform his work.
Chris’ videos can be found on the project’s playlist on Arts Derbyshire’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_Mg1Ux7HSTHNlZmoIhICQfpskQTeOhBi]
Matinée Outreach will be coming to an end at the end of May 2022. For more information on the project, please visit www.artsderbyshire.org.uk/matinee
