Summer Intensive courses with People Dancing – 7-28 July 2024

Join us this July, online, on location and in our home city of Leicester, for one or more days of People Dancing’s Summer 2024 Intensive. This mix of inspiring courses with artists from the leading edge of community and participatory dance is a chance for you to learn, experiment and reflect with like-minded colleagues.

There are ten courses to choose from, taking place virtually and in person. There are courses to suit all career stages and all the courses are:

  • A safe space for mutual learning and co-mentorship – for students, teachers and leaders of community and participatory dance and other performing arts specialists with an interest in the field
  • Focussed time to fill up on inspiration for the year to come by deepening your current practice or exploring new avenues
  • Cost-conscious with fee reductions for Members of People Dancing
  • A chance to network with peers as passionate as you from near and far, the welcoming People Dancing team and have a general emphasis on respite, refreshment, and the joy of together!

Two courses have a creative health focus:

People Dancing :: Introduction to dance with older people :: Foundation for Community Dance

Join Diane Amans, one of the leading practitioners in community dance in the UK, to explore creative approaches to working inclusively with older people.

By taking this course you will:

  • Understand the ageing process and how it impacts on safe practice in dance
  • Gain practical ideas for dance with a range of older people and a working understanding of appropriate leadership styles.

People Dancing :: Dance, health and wellbeing :: Foundation for Community Dance

Danielle is an industry leading artist, director, and researcher whose work is driven by people and their stories, offering a chance for ordinary human life to be given value and everyday people to be seen.

By attending this course you will:

  • Discuss the term of ‘dance in health and wellbeing’, and the impact of the last five years of policy and practice as it has affected holistic or socially engaged dance
  • Explore how you are influenced by approaches to defining dance in health and wellbeing terms, and how this has influenced your sense of autonomy
  • Consider perspectives on diversity and inclusion, the positive benefits of evidence-based practice, the need to retain authenticity in artistic voice and values, and how we can draw from all this learning for the benefit of individual approaches.
