I SEE you: a creative project for parents of children with non-visible disabilities.
Derbyshire artist/maker Lois Blackburn, is working with a range of charities and support groups from across the UK, to reach parents and carers of children with non-visible disabilities. It’s designed to give parents/carers a chance to get creative, focus on self-care, relax, come together and share their stories, through making a large collaborative embroidered quilt.
The final quilt will be toured in an exhibition, along with a digital catalogue, raising awareness of non-visible disabilities and the impact they can have on the whole family. Participating groups may be able to show the quilt to raise awareness of their stories and the power of craftivism.
Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, you can get involved for free. Lois is offering face-to-face group workshops at times and days to suit, postal material packs, with everything needed to join in, on-line workshops timetabled on a variety of days and times in the week plus on-line instructions, ideas and inspiration.
She is particularly looking for community groups of parents/carers of children with non-visible disabilities who may wish to take part together, either in situ or online.
Please share this information with parents/carers of children with non-visible disabilities
“Your project made me feel very heard and seen and I cannot thank you enough for creating this quilt, giving us the opportunity to join in.”
