Straight Curves – Hello 2024: Courses, Resolutions, and more!

Start the new year

…how you mean to go on

So many people try to reinvent themselves in January and set massive goals and resolutions. Then inevitably they are unachievable and you spend many a time beating yourself up for not succeeding at reaching your unrealistic targets straightaway and maintaining them. Last year I tried to be realistic and set small goals with many steps and focused on doing the best I could everyday and then starting fresh the next day.

In 2023 I have managed to have a weekend off every month (I think this was the first time for 10 years), I wanted to go on three spa days (I managed two) and I have made significant progress on finding a place for everything in my house (realistically maybe 40% of my stuff is now in the right place). Setting realistic goals and boundaries is really hard work but not as hard as being compassionate towards yourself if you don’t make the grade you hoped for. I have got a little bit better at all these things this year and that is great progress for me. This year choose to be kind to yourself above all else and work on knowing yourself a little better.

One of the goals I have for this year, similarly to the last few years is to use February to finish off started projects. I have found setting a time limit on this task helps to keep it realistic for me, I have hundreds of projects on the go and there is no way I will finish them all (partly because I am constantly starting more and having new ideas). So 2 years ago I focused on projects. I stored in my living room to prevent getting overwhelmed, last year I made a list and shared the resource I made with you. This year I am going to use that same list format to help me focus on what I want to achieve. To get your own copy of the resource for free just email fof24@straightcurves.co.uk and I will email it back to you (part of it is shown below).

Our Crafty Calendar

At Christmas we said goodbye to our valued team member Joanne who has moved on to pastures new and I’m sure you will all join us in wishing her well. We have found a small team of people to fill her role as it is a big gap to fill. Ella-Jane will be helping with studio support and admin, Amy will be taking over managing our workshop schedule with my support, Gwyneth is taking over running morning Woolly Wednesday, I will be running evening Woolly Wednesday and we have a new team member starting in February to run our after school clubs too. We will be looking for some more tutors to start in September this year to increase our range of sessions we have available. This will include guest tutors so if you have been to a workshop somewhere else that was great please let us know.

We still have our range of kits in stock in the studio and on our website along with our popular creative me time vouchers. We have spaces on some of our workshops and courses coming up in January if you fancy starting off this year indulging in some creativity with us and maybe trying something new. If you just want to dedicate more time each week to being creative then Woolly Wednesday maybe just what you are looking for and allow to socialise at the same time.

We hope you had a great Christmas and New Year with those special people in your life.

Take care and keep creating,
Lots of love Karen and the StraightCurves Team x x x
