Arts Derbyshire Board are delighted to formally announce the appointment of Stephen Munn as the new Director of the Charity. Stephen joins Arts Derbyshire at a crucial time in their journey of growth as Derbyshire’s key strategic arts organisation as they build partnerships, expand their support to members across the county, and continue to grow their very successful Arts in Health and Wellbeing programme.
Stephen Munn is a highly experienced art and culture sector leader, having been CEO and Artistic Director at Deda from 2006 – 2019, and also instigating Deda Producing Limited within his tenure. He was CEO and Artistic Director of Absolutely Cultured in Hull 2019 – 23, steering the City of Culture Legacy programme, and working most recently with Art Reach (Leicester). Stephen brings not only a huge breadth of experience, knowledge and understanding of the sector, but more importantly his passion for the arts and conviction in the vital role the arts play in people’s lives.
Stephen is looking forward to getting out and about around the county to meet people working in the arts – both within organisations and independently as freelance artists – helping Arts Derbyshire to build effective partnerships and networks, as they continue to work together towards creating a vibrant arts ecology across the county for all people to engage with and enjoy.
Chair of Arts Derbyshire Board, Debi Hedderwick, says “We are absolutely delighted to have appointed someone with such a breadth and depth of experience, and to be working with Stephen as we continue to develop and grow. We know Stephen will bring direction, insight and experience to the role, enabling us to establish strong partnerships and networks, and achieve organisational sustainability, which will allow us to achieve our vision of enriching the lives of Derbyshire people through their active engagement in the arts.”
Stephen Munn says of the appointment “I am thrilled to be taking up the position of Director at Arts Derbyshire and feel privileged to be able to work across my home County over the coming months. There are so many great artists and organisations producing amazing work in Derbyshire. I look forward to getting out and meeting as many people as possible so I can fully understand where Arts Derbyshire can continue to have the greatest impact in these challenging times. I fundamentally believe that the arts enhance people’s lives and it is organisations like Arts Derbyshire that play such an important role in making that happen.”
