Dear friend of The Old Lock Up Gallery – It feels like a while since I was last in touch and this newsletter is as equally as exciting as the last… I rarely host solo shows here at the gallery and I’m super excited to let you know that our first solo show for some time ‘Rising, Setting, Rising opens on Friday 29th September from 7-9pm: as always you are warmly invited to celebrate the exhibition opening with us, I hope you can make it! Our solo artist is Leicester based painter Nigel Smith – who exhibited with us earlier this year in a group show. So many of the visitors to that show stood in front of his work seemingly transfixed and mesmerised by what they saw and experienced. In my 9 years of running 2 galleries and 12 years of exhibiting work I haven’t experienced engagement such as that before – not to that extent anyway. So I excitedly invited Nigel to create a body of work for a solo show – he’s now developed 26 wonderful new pieces of work which I excitedly viewed last week – amazing! Any artist, creative or art lover will instantly know on seeing the show that Nigel as spent many many years developing, refining and finding his painterly technique and unique expression. As you can tell I’m really looking forward excitedly to seeing the paintings adorn the gallery walls. Nigel will also be here in the gallery painting mindfully on October 15th 2-5pm: no need to book – please feel free to pop in.
