Latest loans confirmed for Hogarth’s Britons exhibition

We would like to thank our generous community of supporters who have already donated over £9,640 (including Gift Aid), which is over 40% of the total needed to bring this world-class exhibition to Derby!
In addition to loans previously secured, the exhibition focusing on Hogarth’s response to the threat of Jacobite rebellion, is now confirmed to include William Hogarth’s The Staymaker and The Dance (Tate), ceramics, glassware and jewellery (V&A), a hand coloured etching of The Butcher by George Bickham (British Museum) and Allan Ramsey’s portrait of Prince Charles Edward Stuart, 1720 – 1788. Eldest Son of Prince James Francis Stuart (National Galleries of Scotland). This is almost certainly the first time the portrait will have been back to Derby since 1745 and as the only known image of Charles from this pivotal moment in his life, the painting has been recognised as one of the most important surviving Jacobite artefacts.
