Artist profile

Vickers Fine Art Award

Derbyshire Community Foundation manages the Vickers Fine Art Award. The Award is biennial, is advertised nationally and brings a rising artist to Derbyshire for a year’s residency to produce a body of new work inspired by the landscape, people and heritage of Derbyshire. The artist receives a bursary, a studio at Banks Mill, Derby, a contribution to the cost of materials and expenses and exhibitions at a variety of venues including Derby Museum and Art Gallery and The Dome, Buxton. The artist is asked to contribute the equivalent of 5 days of teaching within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Derby, will facilitate a small number of educational workshops within the community and will donate 20% of the art produced or one piece of art work, whichever is the greater, to the Jonathan Vickers Collection. The Collection is displayed at The Enterprise Centre, University of Derby. Jonathan Vickers Award artists are Lewis Noble (2001), Kerry Harker (2003), Helena Ben-Zenou (2005), Natalie Dowse (2007) and Bartholomew Beal (2012). The next Award will be advertised early in 2014.
