Artist profile
I am a self taught artist creating watercolour paintings inspired by the Peak District which I have enjoyed exploring since I was young. I love discovering new places, particularly woodlands – I have a fascination with trees and the Japanese practice of shinrin yoku (forest bathing). A simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees observing nature and helping to helping de-stress. I hope to bring some of this calm feeling through in my paintings.
I have been painting since I could hold a brush and professionally for the past 9 years. I exhibit at numerous events and venues around the County throughout the year and am hoping to begin offering workshops later this year. I sell original artwork as well as limited edition prints through my website (www.squigglysue.co.uk), at events and through a number of stockists.
My designs are a bit quirky, usually colourful and feature detailed silhouettes of trees and deer. I love working with watercolour – it can be quite unpredictable and produce results you weren’t expecting. I use Sennelier l’Aquarelle paint on Arches or Fabriano rough paper as the paint and texture of the paper reacts well with my loose style.
