Jules Swindel

I am a carer and a mother of eight who discovered I am also a poet. I have turned my poems into pocket books designed to be carried with you as a companion “out in the field” or across the supermarket car park.

  • By saying yes to opportunities I found myself playing women’s rugby matches
  • reading poetry on stage to raise funds for Punks 4 the Homeless and BlindEye
  • running 8K and a weekly 5k with Ripley Rabbits group
  • attending yoga flow classes
  • taking part in arts and philosophy talks
  • chanting and drumming circles
  • volunteering as a back-marker on historical walks and helping create an inner city garden
  • producing a calendar for Herbert Strutt School featuring portraits drawn by each pupil that was adopted by schools across Derbyshire
  • hosting a book launch
  • live interviews on radio via phone and in the studio
  • drawing Derby city centre to assist in regenerating it’s image
  • making a zine
  • letterpress and linocut workshops
  • setting up Wow RIpley is Interesting Facebook page
  • home educating my three youngest sons
  • exhibiting large paintings in London as part of the Desperate Artwives exhibition and completing a bricklaying course.
