Artist profile

Jenny Marshall

My work combines fine art, sustainability and a fascination with wood in all its forms. Experimenting  with 2D and 3D approaches  I manipulate mixed media and wood to explore light, texture and movement.

I deeply respect wood as a living thing, its vital role in our eco-system and throughout human history. All my substrates are of reclaimed wood, with a story to tell. I meticulously restore each piece I use, unveiling its natural beauty and rich history through age-old marks and unique character. Worn, weathered, patterned and textured these marks inspire my work.

I explore ideas of human identity connected to our planet throughout time, and what lies hidden under the surface and the precarious relationship between humans and the forces of nature. Fundamental to this, I work mostly in my outdoor studio in fresh air and daylight, ensuring my processes are as sustainable and carbon neutral as possible.

Creative Genre

  • Mixed media painting, sculpture, articulated work (moving) My work is semi abstract, expressive and is heavily textured/ layered relief. Focus on sustainability, using reclaimed and restored wood. The wood generally cuts through and features in the work.
