The Workshop

Before your children go back to school come and join us for a fun-filled morning that you can add to your special memories of Summer 2025! This wonderful workshop offers a chance for children aged 8 and up to take part in a specialist craft activity, (usually attended just by adults) all under the guidance of an expert craft tutor. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn new skills together and enjoy quality time as a family. We know you will all love the spontaneity and excitment of seeing new patterns, shapes and take joy in the merging of the paint colours – it is an amazing process.

Your tutor, Paola, is looking forward to meeting you and says: “The workshop will cover a few pouring techniques so you can familiarise yourself with this expressive painting technique. There will be guidance, support and, most importantly, much encouragement to move beyond the “white canvas” block and the “don’t make a mess” fear. (Your children will teach you how to fly with these concepts!) I will also give you advice and suggestions about the choice and combination of colours to encourage you to get started.

The pouring technique is an empowering, effective self-expression medium with endless possibilities that doesn’t require any previous painting experience, just an open mind and a willingness to learn it while having fun! Acrylic pouring is suitable for anybody from the age of 8 upward. (NB: all adults and children will do the craft together. Therefore you will be expected to be with your child at all times.)

I will bring a hair dryer because it is a very useful tool to demonstrate an additional style/technique to create unique fluid art. I will also bring wooden skewers to use as “pencils” to draw patterns on the wet paint.

Aluminium trays will be provided to carry home your finished, but still wet painting. (Please bear in mind, the painting will need about three days to fully dry and you need to take it away flat).

By the end of the workshop you will have gained much in terms of learning, wellbeing, self-confidence, having fun with your family and socialising with other families and a keen interest in being creative.”

What to bring?

Anticipation to enjoy the whole experience!

Specific to this workshop:

  • Make sure you wear something casual: short sleeves tops/t-shirts are better.
  • Please tie up long hair.
  • If you have a spare apron, please bring it with you.
  • Reading glasses if you need them.

What skills are needed?

This pouring technique is a very spontaneous, expressive technique, so no previous experience is necessary. It is not fiddly but requires ‘soft hand movements’ to gently tip your canvas (whilst joyfully watching all your colourful paints moving over the surface!) Don’t worry about paint on your hands, protective gloves and wipes will be provided.

What are the timings?

This is an exciting morning running from 10.30am to 1.30pm … these 3 hours are to allow time for much fun and creativity! Dependent on how you want your finished canvas to look, you may finish a little earlier.

Our purple front door will be open from 10am so we can welcome you in, you can get to meet Paola and fellow families and grab a drink before you start.

How many places are available?

To ensure the quality of your families personal experience, the total group size is limited to 15. Book early not to miss out!

What is the cost?

Adult ticket at the reduced cost of £35 + 79p card fee.

Child ticket at just £25 + 63p card fee.

Both tickets include: 2 canvases, good quality acrylic paints, plastic cups, plastic spoons, skewers, gloves and protective plastic for your clothes, wipes and refreshments (excluding lunch). We will be providing drinks and biscuits throughout the morning.

We want you to go home with a spring in your step and feel really good about what you have achieved. To make sure we can thoroughly look after you and you child / children during your workshop please fill in all your individual booking forms with all the things that will help, be it your / your child’s favourite milk, or any extra support you / your child may require. Please also let us know of allergies that we may need to highlight to your fellow crafters e.g. nuts, perfume. Many thanks.

NB: Paola asks: “With the participants’ permission I will take some photos of the art workshop in progress and finished artworks. the images will be used to promote future workshops and shared on my social media channels.” Please let her know on the day if you would prefer your face(s) not to be in the photos.
