About Hubbub Theatre Company
Hubbub Theatre Company is a unique, inclusive theatre organisation led by and for learning disabled, Autistic, Neurodiverse and nondisabled performers. Our mission is to create accessible physical theatre that tells authentic human stories while empowering Learning Disabled, Autistic and Neurodiverse artists to thrive as creators and leaders. Founded in 2016, we embrace a collaborative approach through The Hubbub Way, a methodology co-designed by our professional actors. Our artists are central to our leadership, co-directing performances, shaping training programmes, and representing the company at national forums. Our company structure ensures a supportive environment where Learning Disabled, Autistic and Neurodiverse individuals confidently contribute to decision-making and independent projects.
Our practice is rooted in the belief that creativity is a powerful tool for social change, fostering confidence, community, and self-expression among our participants. Through drama, performance, and creative workshops, we empower individuals to develop their artistic voices while challenging societal perceptions of disability.
We work collaboratively with local organisations, schools, and social groups, reaching diverse communities and promoting engagement through subsidised and free outreach workshops. Our practice can be seen in our 2023 TEDx presentation, ‘The Not So Quiet Revolution ’ the company presented the Hubbub Way through the Agents of Kindness – characters created as part of our show The Drum.
Our vision is to create a society where Learning Disabled, Autistic and Neurodiverse individuals are recognised, valued, and fully integrated within the cultural landscape. We achieve this through a person-centred approach, offering participants a safe space to explore their creativity, build social connections, and gain valuable life skills.
