Cathi is available for poetry nights, workshops, festivals and panels. We are especially seeking events after November 2026 and throughout
2027.
About Cathi Rae
Cathi Rae is an award winning poet. She is a multiple slam winner and spoken word artist performing throughout the UK.
She has been published widely and her collection “Your cleaner hates you and other poems” was published by Soulful Publishing at the end of 2019, just in time for a global pandemic…she’s trying not to take it personally.
She has been described as “a spoken word icon” by Joelle Taylor and is trying hard to live up to this.
Her work is political, quietly angry and tells the stories of people who don’t often end up in poems.
She has an MA in creative writing from the University of Leicester and is currently working on a PhD in poetry generously funded by M4C.
She writes a regular column in Writers Magazine on writing poetry and is an experienced workshop facilitator helping everyone to find their poetic voice.
Cathi has an extremely strong and engaged social media following with more than 33,000 followers on Instagram.
Make My Poem Rapid
Cathi’s brand new release, to be published by Rotten Poetry in November 2026, tells the lives of those who don’t usually end up in poems.
Make My Poem Rapid is a collection based on true stories using innovative and collaborative practices. The poet worked with individuals to craft poems that reflect their lived experience. The subject taking a role in editing and honing the poem until it felt right to both poet and subject.
This collection pulls people out of the shadows who are normally marginalised. Themes emerge of gender identity, mental health, homelessness, grief, loss and chronic illness (amongst many other narratives).
Make My Poem Rapid is a collection that gives voice to people who the arts often overlook. The writer herself challenges these artistic norms as an older women from a deeply working class background, Cathi speaks openly about the challenges she has faced.
The collection is an eye-opening, liberating and moving exploration into real lives, an experiment in challenging societal expectations and a first-class example of working class poetry.
