Deaf-initely Women (DW) support and empower deafblind women to live fully inclusive lives with empowerment-based advice and information designed by deafblind women themselves. Our workforce is 100% led by deaf and deafblind women of which 22% are deafblind. We aim to increase this number to almost to a third of the charity’s workforce.
With the support of the deafblind team, the Outreach Support worker will deliver a home-visiting service where she will carry out assessments of clients’ needs to fully participate in activities, access services and/or to volunteer. The postholder will also help to contribute to the creation of factsheets that will enable deafblind women to be empowered and assist with independent living. Where appropriate, the Outreach Support worker will make referrals to our internal Advocacy team.

Role and Responsibilities
The post holder will:
- Deliver a home visiting service for deafblind women in an agreed mutual place and public settings.
- Develop supported opportunities for deafblind women to participate and/or volunteer.
- Contribute to the development of factsheets in various formats to support deafblind women to live independently.
- Where appropriate, ensure deafblind women are accessing benefits, entitlements and services including advocacy services.
- Support Guided Getaway’s initiatives and new projects/services as required.
- Support deafblind clients & promote equality, diversity, inclusion & social justice.
- Have access to transport via Access to Work and be prepared to travel across Derby/shire and Nottingham/shire.
- Follow all DW’s policies & procedures including risk management, safeguarding, confidentiality and accurate record keeping.
- Build positive working relationships with a diverse range of deafblind clients, colleagues, and partner organisations.
- Manage their caseload effectively and prioritise tasks whilst meeting deadlines.
- Take part in training and continuous professional development.
- Cover colleagues’ work during absence (e.g. holidays or sickness).
- Work both independently and as part of a team.
- Support and share learning with other team members through shadowing opportunities.
Personal Specification – Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Have basic knowledge / experience of using British Sign Language (BSL) and able to communicate in Deafblind Manual or a willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of Deafblind culture, community and communication methods.
- Good understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Awareness of relevant legislation and guidance, including the Care Act 2014, Safeguarding and confidentiality.
- Understanding of the social model of disability and issues affecting deafblind women.
Experience
The postholder will have personal experience of:
- being deafblind, having dual sensory loss or have partial sight and hearing loss.
- managing tasks and working to deadlines.
- maintaining accurate information.
- MS 365 including Word and Excel.

- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage risks appropriately.

The post holder will work 10.5 hours spread over 5 days a week, between the hours of 10am – 4pm from our office in Belper.
