Buxton Opera House is delighted to share the news that their BOH Creates intergenerational Connecting for Creativity project has been nominated in the Excellence in Arts Education category at the UK Theatre Awards 2026. The UK Theatre Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in regional theatre across the UK.
The project brought together local school pupils and care home residents to share, create, and perform stories rooted in the local community. Across several months, students worked alongside professional freelancers to capture memories from care settings, transforming them into live performances. They then presented these on the Pavilion Arts Centre stage in March 2026 and shared back with residents in their homes.
Allie Spencer, Head of Creative Learning and Engagement at Buxton Opera House, said:
“The Connecting for Creativity project proved that when you bring different generations together, magic happens. This recognition belongs to every single person involved, from the residents in our local care settings, our fantastic Buxton Opera House resident team and freelancers, to the brilliant students at St Thomas More CVA, St Anne’s CVA, and Harpur Hill Primary who brought those local stories to life on our Arts Centre stage and back into residents’ homes with empathy and respect.”
The Connecting for Creativity Project was made possible thanks to support from Arts Council England and The Hall Bank Trust.
