Arts Derbyshire is supported by a team whose sole aim is to enrich the community through art and creativity. Although you may already have heard about and partaken in Arts Derbyshire projects, we would like to introduce you to the arts team behind Arts Derbyshire and learn about their work in their own words.
In this article, we are profiling Beth Sheldon our Creative in Place for Erewash.
As a creative, Beth straddles many roles including Theatre Maker, Story Gatherer, Performer, Arts Facilitator and Producer. Beth loves using creativity to build human connections, grow communities and empower isolated voices to share their stories.
Her work is often co-created with communities and takes on a variety of forms including theatre shows, multi-sensory story experiences, parties, pop up character encounters, art installations, audio stories, cultural exchanges and workshops.
She has twenty-one years professional experience in the creative industries. Seventeen of these have been spent as Artistic Director of Maison Foo, a Theatre and Arts organisation based in Derbyshire (Derby Theatre Associate 2017-present and Deda resident artist 2008-2010). This work has taken her as far as India and as close as down the road!
Beth also has extensive experience in Arts and Health having spent eight years as one of Air Arts Patient Engagement Artists working throughout Derby Hospitals.
Since 2022 Beth has been working as Storyteller in Residence for Make/Shift (Amber Valley Creative People and Places).
Beth is currently in the midst of an Arts Council Develop Your Creative Practice grant, focusing on Community Story Gathering and is excited to bring all of this learning to her new role as Erewash Creative in Place with Arts Derbyshire.
